I love to find old things and give them new life. I'm a sucker for a good before and after, and that's mostly what you'll find on here. I'm not above dumpster diving either :)

Before/After Angel
My mom has had this angel for a long time. This morning we were sitting in the bedroom in which it resided, and she mentioned stuff she was getting rid of, the angel being one of the things. Of course I told her I would take it. I removed all the embellishments, sprayed it flat ivory then went over it with walnut stain then added some black glaze here and there. Not sure what I will do with her, but I do think she has had a good face lift.

Roadkill Table
I amso happy with this makeover, mainly because I didn't spend one dime! It comes with a story too. :) This table was sitting by a fairly heavily traveled road close to our house for days and days this summer. I never could tell what it was because it was broken in two and looked like a shelf of some sort. Well, I never did stop, but one day I noticed it had been turned upright and the top was on it. I just asked Paul if he had happened to see it while out on his morning walks. He said yep, and he was the one that sat it up because he knows how I am about roadside furniture; I just can't pass it up. But he told me it wasn't worth it becaues it was rickety and missing some pieces. Well, I just couldn't live with not even looking at it, so I stopped one day and loaded it on up. Sure enough, it was missing the foot on one leg and the top needed to be reattached. But guess who I have?? My awesome stepdad Mark, who happens to be a great handiman AND has woodworking tools. Next time he was over at my house, I showed him the table. He took it with him, and within less than 24 hours, I was delivered a completely intact table---top attached AND a fixed leg. I was so excited. Anyway it sat in the garage for awhile because it's too small to be a kitchen table and too big to be a side table, so I wasn't sure what to do with it. Well, we've been snowed in for days and I decided it was time for a project. So I got this baby out, sanded it down a bit, painted the top with some off white paint I had and added walnuut stain on TOP of the paint, and I love the way it turned out. Then I used some navy blue color on the legs, and added some stain on them too to give it an uneven look. Right now it's a stand-in until we get a new breakfast table. Going to list on craigslist after that!!
Before/After Chair
I love my new chair!! I found this small to medium sized chair for 6 bucks at Salvation Army. It was very well built, just a little dusty and needed to be recoverd, because let me tell you that chair seat had seen better days! Ripped up vinyl; ughh. Anyway I am changing up my breakfast table and want an eclectic look, and this chair will be the perfect size for the girls yet adults can sit in it too. I got it home, cleaned it then painted it with two coats of Folk Art craft paint, and put a clear spray gloss on it. Then I just had this wonderful towel from my favorite store-Anthropologie of course, that was the perfect fit and match. Used the staple gun to put it on and here it is!

Baby Blankie
My cousin is having a baby boy, anMy cousin and his wife are having a baby boy, and his bedroom theme is Arkansas Razorbacks. I found a long piece of fleece Razorback fabric at Hobby Lobby, brought it home, cut it in half and cut/tied each piece together to make a tie blanket. I love these; my girls always loved small blankets to carry around and I hope he'll love his!

Laney's Nightstand
Canvas Redo

This is one of my faves!! I got this canvas from a friend , same one who was throwing away the other canvas I repainted. I had originally thought I was going to make a headboard with this, but decided I needed something above my entertainment center, but nothing really colorful just something w/texture. So I twine wrapped it....boy did that take forever!! But I am so happy with the way it turned out. Too bad I don't have a better picture. Blackberrys have terrible cameras and my real camera is broken at the moment.. Anyway it was worth the time, cuts and tangled twine. :)
Chandelier Makeover

I received this beauty from Michael, who is remodeling his house. He took this it down and asked if I would want anything to do with it. Of course I did!! I could hardly wait to get my hands on it. I cleaned off the years of dirt, completely unwired it and got rid of several bees and moths that had met their demise there. I primed it and thought I wanted it silver but it just wasn't working. So I repainted it my favorite--oil rubbed bronze, and got these fancy little candles to put in it. I have some extra chain and going to hang it above my bathtub. I've always wanted a candleabra there!! Now, stay tuned for what I'm gonna do w/those nice little bulb covers....

Christmas Gifts

Here are a couple of things I did for Christmas gifts. I painted the frame for a friend's teacher gift; it was just a plain Hobby Lobby wooden frame. The jewelry box was a thrift find. It was completely white, and cute enough the way it was but Kendall wanted to jazz it up a bit for her friend it was going to, so I got some cute scrapbook paper and cut to fit.
Round Table Before/After
You might recognize this table from a previous post. I found this very weathered and dirty table for close to nothing....kinda obvious why! I knew it had potential though. it was painted kelly green, but I wasn't sure what to do with it , so to the attic graveyard of furniture it went until I could think of something. Then my sister said she wanted a night stand for my nephew, so I thought that would work perfect for a boy's nightstand. I first cleaned it really well, removed those weird knob things (what were those!?) then sanded it down and put wood filler in all the chips/gaps/holes. I primed it the sprayed it red. After letting it dry a few hours I added a black glaze, going in opposite directions. I am hoping he likes it!

Chest/Mirror turned Buffet/Chalkboard
I recently decided to redo my kitchen on the cheap. I was so over the red, and luckily my friend painted it for me, how nice is that!! As far as decor, I love pottery barn but not gonna pay their prices!! So...instead of paying $1500 for a buffet i paid about $40 for this whole set. It is a chest but we use it as a buffet-slash-kid's stuff storage. Since they color in the kitchen all the time, one side holds all their supplies and the other napkins/paper plates, and also the junk drawer..so glad to have the kitchen just for kitchen stuff now!! Anyway i painted the mirror with chalkboard paint and sanded and refinished the chest and repainted the hardware. I may paint the bottom part and leave the top in the wood finish but for now here it is. Loving it!

Curio Before/After
A friend and I traded - she did photography for me and I redid her curio. I painted black and distresed/replaced knobs. Was very hard work but I am quite happy with it.

Before/After Candlestick and Pumpkin
My friend gave me two of these candlesticks, but I didn't like the fact that it was a taper candlestick nor the color of it. So I painted one white and glazed over it a little. Then I got a styrofoam pumpkin and painted it blue with metallic stripes (haven't you seen one of those before!? :)) Since it was styrofoam I just pressed it into the candlestick and it was a perfect fit. Wrapped a brown boa around it and all done.

Another Before and After Chair
I got this chair at the Salvation Army for $8. It is for a local children's advocacy group for their annual festival of chairs. It needed a little cleaning up and frame work, so I did all that then painted it Krylon Emerald Green, then went over it with some black glze. I covered the seat in cotton duck zebra fabric and used gorilla glue for the pink trim. I stenciled on a couple of designs and added a few jewels and some black trim and it was done!

Chair Revamp
I found this old chair at Goodwill. It was hideous but still solid, and I wanted to glaze it so I liked the ornate detail. I sprayed it Krylon Blue Ocean Breeze and went over it w/my Ralph Lauren faux glaze. I had previously ripped off the fruity goodness of a chair cushion in hope that something better might be under there--not a chance, just granny gold. I wanted a bright orange and white damask, but no luck finding any so I got some black and white quatrefoil print.
